Drug-related arrests in the U.S. has drastically increased since the early 1980s with more African-Americans now losing their freedom than any other race, according to two new reports released last week by civil rights groups.

On Wednesday, May 7, only six days after the U.S. House of Representatives gave final approval of the "Ensuring Continued Access to Student Loans Act of 2008," President George W. Bush signed the bill into law.

"With this bill signed into law, students and families now have every assurance that they will continue to have access to all the federal student loans they are eligible for, no matter what happens in the nation's financial markets," said Chairman of the House Committee on Education and Labor George Miller.
